The IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) wishes to bring to your attention its
Course on International Maritime Security Law which will commence on 1 March 2021.
This Course will cover the various critical maritime security threats including maritime
terrorism, piracy, trafficking of narcotics, people and illicit goods, arms proliferation, fisheries
crimes. The Course will lay emphasis on the existing international laws and State practices
deterring the same. Further, the Course will focus on the current legal developments ensuring
the safe navigation of ships, protection of offshore installations and coasts of maritime States.
It also covers the contribution of international organizations, especially IMO, and the role of
regional cooperation in overcoming such threats. The special status of warships, and the
jurisprudential contribution of international courts and tribunals are also discussed within the
Course.
This Course would be of immense benefit to officials of maritime administrations, navies and
coast guards, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and other security agencies involved
directly or indirectly in maritime security affairs. It will also be beneficial for the professionals
involved in the maritime industry including lawyers, port officers, marine insurers, shipowners,
and operators.
At the end of the course, a certificate of participation will be issued.
