Mr. Deshon Jahrel Griffith (Barbados) was awarded the Sasakawa Prize for the Best Performing Nippon Foundation Scholar during the Institute’s 28th Annual Graduation Ceremony held at the Malta Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa, Malta on 27 May 2017. The Prize was awarded by Mr. Masamichi Hasebe (Senior Legal Counsel, The Japan Association of Marine Safety).
The Prize (the Sasakawa Prize for the Best Performing Nippon Foundation Scholar) is awarded to a student who registered the overall best performance amongst the Nippon Foundation sponsored scholars for the academic year.
Mr. Griffith, the winner of the Prize for the 2016-2017 academic year, is a Maritime Law Enforcement Officer of the Barbados Defence Force. He was one of the twelve students sponsored by the Nippon Foundation for the 2016-2017 academic year.
