The Institute had the pleasure of welcoming online, Judge José Luis Jesus (Judge of the
International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS)) on 10 May 2021. Judge Jesus delivered
a lecture titled “Delimitation of the Continental Shelf Beyond 200 nm (Cases No. 16 and 23).”
He was introduced by Professor David Attard (Director, IMLI), who described him as one of
the legends in the area of the law of the sea. The lecture of Judge Jesus straddles both the IMLI
Specialized Courses on Peaceful Settlement of Maritime Disputes and Delimitation of
Maritime Boundaries, which was attended by over 100 Government nominated participants
from 79 countries.
