It is recognized that to date, the fruitful cooperation between IMLI and The Nippon Foundation has created a formidable network of one hundred and ninety-eight (198) maritime experts from seventy-six (76) States. This growing network is contributing successfully to the promotion, adoption, and effective implementation of UN and IMO international maritime conventions on a global basis particularly in developing States. In fact, IMLI-Nippon Foundation Alumni are already having a direct impact in many areas including:

• the adherence to the applicable international maritime law conventions and legal instruments;
• the implementation and incorporation of such conventions and instruments into national law;
• the effective enforcement of the relevant national law; and
• the proper interpretation of that national law to ensure harmonization with the applicable international regime.

Moreover, the contribution of the growing network of IMLI-Nippon Foundation Alumni to the international maritime community may be seen at both national level and international fora. It is thus felt by both IMLI and The Nippon Foundation that  this network consolidates and provides a platform whereby the IMLI-Nippon Foundation Alumni can communicate, collaborate and exchange ideas and experiences.

This dedicated website thus encourages global collaboration between the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), The Nippon Foundation and the IMLI-Nippon Foundation Alumni, enabling the fostering of stronger links between IMLI, The NF and its Alumni.
